Going Green – Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Being green has been in the forefront of the news and current affairs in recent years. As our climate continues to change, we now understand that greenhouse gas is a real and escalating problem. MHL believes that it is imperative that our customers and their communities have sustainable lighting solutions at their fingertips, so they can make environmentally responsible choices. We are proud to live in New Zealand, and want to keep it green - so we purchase native trees to offset the businesses carbon footprint, which are then planted in National Parks and Department of Conservation lands throughout New Zealand.
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Once an electrical product is energised, it draws power from the grid, which consequently engenders a carbon footprint. Carbon emissions are proportional to energy used which is related to both power and time. The carbon footprint specifically depends upon the wattage of the lamp ballast system, the operating cycle and the duration desired for carbon neutral operation. By capturing these 3 parameters, carbon offset credits may be purchased for any duration
MHL has designed a program where end users may purchase carbon credits to offset a fixtures carbon footprint during its operation on-site. In conjunction with Carbon.Org, a New Zealand based non-profit venture aimed at addressing climate change, pollution and environmental degradation, we not only ensure that our own operations are carbon neutral, but offer and encourage this service to our clients. Through the planting of native trees in Department of Conservation land, businesses can not only reduce their carbon footprint, but contribute to the continuing health of New Zealand’s biodiversity. The cost to have your installation of MHL luminaires carbon neutral will only be cents per day.
MHL purchases the carbon offsets on your behalf. You are presented with a carbon offset certificate, verifying your lighting installation as carbon neutral, have a profile published on the Carbon Org website and are able to promote your business as carbon neutral through the use of Carbon Org logos. Come on Kiwi’s, let’s keep it green.
