Mark Herring Attending the Recent Road Lighting Seminars
Developed in conjunction with councils, NZTA, road lighting experts and members of the AS/NZS 1158 Standards committee, workshops have been held throughout New Zealand to introduce New Zealand’s complete online resource for achieving optimal standards, designs and technical solutions for cost-effective road lighting. The resource has been designed to assist with planning and implementing upgrades of existing road lighting and public space lighting, and to ensure efficient lighting solutions are considered for new installations.
There has been much interest in road lighting technologies and lighting solutions in recent years. Ongoing improvements to existing road lighting technologies – as well as the introduction of new lamp and luminaire options – provide an increasingly complex range of road lighting alternatives. To realise the benefits available from the latest road lighting developments, a clear understanding of the characteristics and suitability of lamps and luminaires for different applications is required.
Staff at MHL attended the workshop, finding its information invaluable in the process of designing and specification of road lighting systems. Of particular interest to the team, was the development of an infrastructure design standard template and guide, which will help specify best-practice lighting design for new infrastructure to achieve the best long-term performance and value for money through efficient design solutions.
